Bird strike! Bird strike!

Video duration: 78 seconds

Some shots of what happens when birds take a dislike to each other in flight. It's fascinating how in some of the shots the smaller bird (a falcon called a hobby) makes a half-roll onto its back then rights itself just before knocking the larger bird (a buzzard) out of the sky.

Hobbies are falcons which nest in England and head south to Africa for the winter. They are the fastest creatures in level motion that I have ever seen. They spend a lot of their 'spare time' lazily drifting around catching flying insects. The video is some shots taken near nesting sites in Warwickshire

Video duration: 60 seconds

Birmingham International Airport in the UK has a single runway, which, unfortunately, is roughly at right angles to the prevailing wind direction. The runway is also rather undulating from one end to the other. This video shows two landings by Boeing 737s on a day in March 2008 when the wind was about 60 degrees to the runway, and gusting to 45 or 50 mph.
