Natzweiler-Struthof was the only concentration camp established by the Nazis on French territory. Strenuous work, poor nutrition and mistreatment resulted in an estimated 25,000 deaths.

Fort Douaumont had the reputation of being the strongest fort in Europe and virtually impregnable. It was captured on February 25th 1916 by German forces in the Verdun offensive and recaptured on 24 October 1916 by Moroccan French Colonial troops after the Germans withdrew.

Le Redoutable (the feared one) was the leadship of the first ballistic missile submarine class of France. She was commissioned in 1971 and decommissioned in 1991. Since 2000, Le Redoutable is used as a museum ship in Cherbourg, being now the largest submarine open to the public.

German Naval Battery build in Audinghen in 1940 as "Batterie Siegfried". In 1942, after the death of Fritz Todt, it was changed in "Batterie Todt". It was equipped with very 38cm heavy guns. The battery was captured by the Canadian Army on September 9th 1944.
